Does anyone care? I know Queensgate letting agents don't!
Apparently not.
Queensgate, my nightmarish letting agency told me that the fire alarm that was triggered was probably not a fire. (How is he able to determine that from the little office he's sitting in 3 blocks down? He must have some amazing vision!)
I've return home at 5pm today to alarms going haywire on the ground floor. When I called Queensgate to let them know about the problem, they came back with an obtuse response "ya, we heard about it 30 mins ago." Have they done anything about it? The little lacky didn't even know what the procedure is and had to refer me to the 'main dude' there. Wot a muppet!
I hung up, exasperated by their incompetence. I should be quiet used to it by now, but I'm always surprised at their lack of general know-how.
Rutger called 112 and got redirected to the fire dept in Reading, so hopefully someone will come and turn off the false alarm. Also, as a back up the flat in question that was causing the alarm to go off was double checked and they are fine. So we don't know what happened, but we figure it's safe enough to go back in.
It does beg the question if Brits are apathetic because so much shit happens, or that when shit happens, they know nothing gets done about it!
Anyway, the firefighters have arrived. I can see the truck 'reversing.' And it looks like everyone is all right.

Fashion alert: I'm in love with this look. How to get my hands on these? Unfortunately, the pair on the left, I can't identify the brand - so I've been forced to find something similar to it. I landed on these River Island boots. I'll go check them out this weekend.
Another look found at Office may work well for girls that can walk in high heels.But I'm a sucker for a reasonable heel. I've suffered a great many injuries from not understand the nature of my ankles. 
But I digress.
Now that I'm looking maybe I'll need those cute peeptoe shoes...
